PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To observe a surface temperature distribution of an object to be observed at all times with the same temperature width, by altering the width displayed based on an output of a light quantity to temperature converting means at a power of '2' at the time of switching a light quantity reducing means, and changing a minimum value of a temperature measuring range to be displayed. SOLUTION: An infrared ray radiated from an object 50 to be observed and condensed via an infrared optical system 11 is converted into an analog signal by an imaging element 12. An imaging element driving circuit 13 drives the element 12 according to an output signal of an electronic shutter selector 22 A light quantity to temperature converter 21 outputs 2n as a signal corresponding to a radiating temperature of the object 60, when a maximum temperature width corresponding to the signal of the selector 22 is larger than 2n-1 (n is natural number) and smaller than the 2n. A gain circuit 23 alters the width set to the width set to the 2n at the power of '2' in the case of imaging the temperature converted by the converter 21. An offset circuit 24 alters a minimum value of the temperature measuring range corresponding to the output signal of the converter 21, and the value is imaged by an image processor 25.
