<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for automatically assigning an identifier to a branch device in an asynchronous transfer mode-multimedia (ATM-M) bus system. SOLUTION: Concerning the identification number assigning method for branch device in ATM-M bus system composed of a multimedia bus interface unit(MBU) 12 accommodated in an ATM exchange 1, bus 2 composed of 21 pieces of outgoing and incoming buses accommodating both the ends in the MBU 12 and returning them at the farthest end and plural branch devices 3 serially connected to the bus, when activating a bus system or when a branch device is newly added, the identification numbers assigned to all the branch devices are deleted, dedicated cells for identification number assignment to use a dedicated channel, to which identification number information to be assigned to respective branch devices is added, composed of a dedicated path and a virtual channel (VP/VC) are successively sent out of the MBU 12 and the branch device, which does not acquire any identification number, closest to the MBU 12 acquires the identification number information.</p> |
