PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a rubber composition exhibiting high tire durability, tread abrasion resistance, etc., by compounding olefinically unsaturated elastomer(s) with a carboxymaleimide phenyl ester. SOLUTION: This rubber composition is obtained by homogeneously compounding (A) 100 pts.wt. of at least one olefinically unsaturated elastomer selected from the group consisting of natural rubber, neoprene, polyisoprene, butyl rubber, polybutadiene, styrene-butadiene copolymers and the like, with (B) 0.05-10 pts.wt. of a carboxymaleimide phenyl ester of the formula (R1 is a 1-8C alkyl or 6-10C aryl; R2 and R3 are each H, a halogen or 1-8C alkyl); wherein the component B may be used etther directly or by being borne on an adequate support. By the way, this composition is heated at 100-200 deg.C in the presence of a sulfur vulcanizing agent to afford a form of tire belt hose, etc., esp. pref. to be usable in tire treads.
