PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively execute compression processing based on correlation between adjacent pixels of the same color and to reduce storage capacity by storing a digital picture signal obtained by A/D converting an electric picture signal in a memory in each color. SOLUTION: At the time of recording picture data in a memory, the data are recorded in the order of pixels. However when pixels are collected in each of three primary colors like red(R) filter pixels, green(G) filter pixels and blue(B) filter pixels and recorded in the memory in the case of a still video camera provided with R, G and B color filters e.g. correlation between adjacent pixels of the same color is obtained and compression processing can be more efficiently executed. Since it is unnecessary to record all optical black(OB) pixels to be black references, only one OB pixel is recorded in each scanning line or only one OB pixel is recorded in each image, so that the capacity of the memory can be saved.
