PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To greatly prolong the life of a seal plate of an oven lid of a coke oven, the seal plate being inserted between the main body of the oven lid and an oven lid brick to be integrally united with them, by preparing the same from ferrite-base stainless steel. SOLUTION: The seal plate 3 of an oven lid of a coke oven 4 is inserted between the main body 1 of the oven lid and an oven lid brick 2 to integrally unite them and connects knife edges 6 and 6 for finely adjusting distances from a frame 5 of the coke oven 4 to the knife edges 6 and 6. The seal plate is prepd. from ferrite-based stainless steel. The seal plate prepd. from ferrite-based stainless steel, having a low coefficient of thermal expansion, exhibits a small thermal strain and can greatly reduce cracks due to thermal strain when compared with a conventional seal plate. Since the seal plate is highly resistant to heat and corrosion, the life can be prolonged.
