PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a digital camera that photographs an object while optionally rotating an image of the object and keeping a usual camera position and with which framing is conducted while confirming the result of photographing so as to avoid photographing mistake. SOLUTION: An image pickup element 303 applies photoelectric conversion to an optical image formed by a photographing optical system 301 and image data obtained by applying prescribed image processing to its electric signal are displayed on a display means provided to a camera main body and recorded on a recording means in this digital camera. In this case, the digital camera is provided with an operation means 330 that supports the image pickup element 303 rotatably around an optical axis of the photographing optical system 301 and rotates the element. Thus, while keeping the camera position at a conventional hold position, the object image is photographed by rotating the object at an optional rotating angle and the result is confirmed by the display means and framing is facilitated.
