PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method for wavelength multiplex transmission with which optical power can be appropriately managed in the unit of a wavelength regardless of the wavelength dependency of transmission line or relay amplifier or the power fluctuation of an inputted signal. SOLUTION: Concerning the wavelength multiplex transmission system for transmitting information by outputting an optical signal from a terminal station (TERM) 101 to a TERM 103 connected by optical transmission lines 161 and 163, the TERM 101 has optical variable attenuators 111, 112...11n for variably attenuating the inputted optical signal and a control part 109 for controlling the attenuation of the optical variable attenuators 111, 112...11n based on a signal for management outputted from the TERM 103. |
