PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a succinimide-based polymer good in biodegradability, and to provide a method for effectively producing a aspartic acid-based polymer using the succinimide-based polymer. SOLUTION: This method for producing a succinimide-based polymer comprises, when heating the solution of an ammonium salt of an amino acid essentially comprising aspartic acid under a reduced pressure, collecting a released ammonia by using a fumaric acid suspension, acid fumaric acid solution, maleic acid solution or acidic maleic acid solution and reusing it as a raw material liquid for L-aspartic acid. The other objective method for production of aspartic acid-based polymer is to employ the above succinimide-based polymer.
