PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a conjugated diene having a control microstructure in a high polymerization activity in a catalytic system using a metallocene complex of a transition metal compound of the group 5 of the periodic table. SOLUTION: In this method for polymerizing a conjugated diene by using a catalyst comprising (A) a metallocene compound of transition metal compound of the group 5, (B) an ionic compound of a non-coordinating anion and a cation, (C) an organoaluminum compound and (D) water, (1) a process for adding the component C and the component D in the presence of the conjugated diene, (2) a process for adding the component A and the component B and carrying out a preliminary polymerization and (3) a process performing a main polymerization are successively carried out.
