PURPOSE: A transmitting and receiving device is provided to be able to transmit and to receive a character message with a partner's telephone by inter-modulating a digital character data and the analog character signal of the FSK signal form. CONSTITUTION: The transmitting and receiving device of the character message comprises: an interface device(11); a relay device(12); an amplifier; a modulating device(14); a signal generating device(15); a control processing device(16); a display device(17); a memory device(18). The modulating device(14) feeds the character signal fed from the amplifier(13), the analog character signal of the frequency shift keying(FSK) form, into the control processing device(16) by modulating to the digital character data, and feeds the digital character data into the amplifier by modulating to the analog character signal of the FSK signal form.
