<p>The extraction of items (A, B, C) from closely spaced racks requires a balance between efficiency of storage (density of items) and ease of extraction. A device is disclosed which simplifies such extraction when performed by opposable gripping elements such as fingers. The device effects a mechanical coupling of the movement of items in a stack such that linear, tilting or rolling movement of one or more items in the stack is translated into linear, tilting or rolling movement respectively in the opposite direction of one or more adjacent items in the rack. Two practical modes of the invention are described, both using the aforementioned principle.</p> |
