Method of data transmission between two terminals e.g. fax machines with different transmission parameters by directing data via converter integrated in communication network

The method involves transmitting a connection request from one terminal (1) to a telecommunication network (3). The information transmitted is evaluated and a connection established from the transmitting terminal to a converter (4). A connection is established by the converter to the receiving terminal (2) and data transmission is begun from the terminal (1) to the converter. The data are immediately redirected from the converter to the receiving terminal (2), with transmission parameters adjusted in the converter. Data that are yet to be transmitted are temporally stored in a buffer (5) of the converter during continuous data transmission. After successful transmission of all data to the converter, the connection to the transmitting terminal (1) is ended, and the buffered data are transmitted from the converter to the receiving terminal (2). After data transmission has ended, an acknowledgement is sent to the transmitting terminal (1).
