<p>The invention discloses a sensor probe (1) for monitoring hydrogen gas concentrations and temperatures. The sensor probe (1) provides a hydrogen sensitive layer (11) and temperature sensitive layer (13) at one end of a light transparent lens (3). The distal end of the lens (3) contains an external barrier layer (9) of hydrogen permeable material, a middle layer (11) of a reflective hydrogen absorbing material, and an innermost layer (13) of a semi-conducting solid that is temperature sensitive. A black body material (14) absorbing laser light is located adjacent to the plurality of layers (9, 11 and 13), and maintains the temperature sensitive layer (13) within a preferred range of temperatures. The lens (3) focuses laser light, onto the plurality of layers (9, 11 and 13) within the sensor probe (1). The interrogating light is generated by a broad-band light generator (22) or laser source (21) and is transmitted by fiber-optics cables (7). Reflected light is transmitted over the same or separate fiber-optic cables (7a) to a spectrometer and system controller.</p> |
