It is possible to record/reproduce a file on/from an information recording medium the number of rewrite operations of which is limited by using only the volume/file management information recorded in a volume space without using the management information in a read-in area to which no logical sector number is allocated. Even if part of the data cannot be recorded or reproduced because of a scratch or dust, the reliability is kept high. Chained information (110, 111), which is part of management information of a root directory file, is written doubly. The chained information (110, 111) includes position information on two pieces of chained information (117, 118) recorded subsequently to the chained information (110, 111). The chained information (110, 111) also includes the first position information on an unrecorded area (113) in the volume space and area management information on invalid extent not used for searching for a volume file structure.
|
