The method for operating the feed pump is carried out so that with falling short of the temperature difference (DELTA T) under the limit value (G1), the suction line (2) of the boiler feed pump (3), acted on with the condensate is regulated. The feed water temperature in the pump corresponds to a selected temperature difference depending on the required NPSH value, which corresponds to the maximum NPSH (normal pressure shaft horsepower) value of the inserted boiler feed pump (3), is held under the saturation temperature of the feed water before the boiler feed pump. So that the temperature difference (DELTA T) is determined from the difference between the saturation temperature of the feed water with a pressure (p) in the suction line (2) and the temperature of the feed water.
