Damping system for vehicle clutch operates in either direction with a two stage reaction to prevent rattling in neutral as well as to damping clutch change operations

A damping system for a dryplate clutch has sprung supports and friction brakes operating in either direction. The damping includes an initial soft damping characteristic followed by a harder reaction. The system prevents rattling of the clutch plate during idling as well as providing a dampened clutch action for normal gear change.
