Carrier for a nutrient medium comprises a flat support with a polymer coating that has hollow channels for receiving the nutrient medium, where the channels are located beneath the surface of the coating, run parallel to the plane of the carrier, are closed at one end, and are connected to the surface of the coating by pores. An Independent claim is also included for production of the carrier by coating the support with a polymer solution and subjecting the polymer to diffusion-controlled precipitation by allowing a precipitant to act on at least one surface of the coated support.
