The potentiometer has pairs of magnetoresistance elements (26,27) on a substrate. The elements are crossed under each other, so that the magnetization axes of fixed magnetic layers of the elements are displaced 180 deg . A magnetic coding element (83) is rotationally arranged opposite the magnetoresistance element on the substrate, so that its rotational center point (O) runs through the intermediate parts of the paired magnetoresistance elements. The magnetic coding element has at least two poles along its rotational direction.
