PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved electromagnetic stopping device having a very tough structure, capable of high speed driving such as typically in few milli-seconds. SOLUTION: In the electromagnetic type yarn stopping device for the pre- adjusting type weft feeder of the air-jet type loom, provided with a permanent magnet comprising a cylindrical body 20 having an axial line of the N-S pole oriented to the radial direction, the cylindrical body 20 is mounted to the stem 19 installed with a stopping finger 17, the stem 19 is linearly mobile in the inside of the cylinder wound up with the coil 26, excitation current is conducted in the coil 26, and the axis of the cylindrical surface coincides with the axis of the mobile stem 19 and crosses to the axis of the N-S pole of the cylindrical body 20.
