PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To permit loading and carrying of a boat by one person by fixing first and second support rods on both sides of a pair of connecting rods to be installed on a roof carrier, fixing first and second movable bodies reciprocatably to both ends of the first and second support rods, and adjusting the position of the carrying device in the lateral and longitudinal directions depending on the type of the boat. SOLUTION: In a carrying device 11 for loading a boat, movable bodies 15, 25 have a gate-shaped cross section and are provided with protection members 16, 26 made of soft members that are provided reciprocatably on both sides of first and second support rods 13, 23 located in a longitudinal direction of a vehicle, covering the top and both side exterior surfaces. The movable bodies 15, 25 are tightened or loosened by tightening handles 18, (28) to be fixed to arbitrary positions on the support rods 13, 23 depending on the type of the boat. One end of the boat is propped against movable bodies 26, 26 provided on top of the second movable body 25 when loading the boat by one person. The boat is then moved in the longitudinal direction along connecting rods 12, 12 for adjustment of the rear end position of the second support rod 23. Then, the roof carriers 8, 8 are fastened.
