CONCURRENTLY CURED RUBBER/THERMOPLASTIC ELASTOMER COMPOSITION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a rubber/thermoplastic elastomer composition having a single low-temperature brittle point and a low oil swelling index, which composition comprises a crosslinked rubber phase containing a plurality of functionalized acrylic rubbers which are dynamically vulcanized with a curing agent and one of which is an ethylene/alkyl acrylate/unsaturated carboxylic acid terpolymer and a thermoplastic polyamide phase. SOLUTION: This composition is prepared by crosslinking a blend of at least two functionalized acrylic rubber one of which is an ethylene/alkyl acrylate/unsaturated carboxylic acid terpolymer in the presence of a thermoplastic polyamide phase and a curing agent (e.g. amine-terminated polyether). The mixing ratio is desirably such that about 25 to about 100 pts.wt. polyamide and about 0.5 to about 12 pts.wt. curing agent are present per 100 pts.wt. functionalized acrylic rubber. It is desirable that at least one of the functionalized acrylic rubbers is the one derived from a 1-10C alkyl acrylate.
