PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of readily producing a porous spherical siliceous aerogel sphere of microsize having high compressive strength characteristics by one-stage hardening reaction of an inexpensive alkali water glass, supplying the siliceous aerosol sphere useful as a fine particle for a carrier for a fixed catalyst, a filler discharged from a cap having high precision a stabilization agent for an antimicrobial compound, a heat-resistant filler. SOLUTION: This method for producing a siliceous aerogel sphere comprises subjecting a water glass solution composition containing an alkali water glass, a water-soluble organic polymer showing a property of compatibility with water at any ratio, a water glass hardening agent and water in which the solution forms a heterogeneous phase structure constituted of a sea phase-island phase and at least >=25 wt.% of the total alkali water glass components mixed in the solution is distributed into the island phase to a suspension gelatinization reaction at 5-80 deg.C, taking out a solid content from the suspension by filtration/ water washing and further dehydrating and drying and/or baking the solid content at a room temperature to 100 deg.C to give a high-strength fine siliceous aerogel sphere.
