PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a multilayer paper with excellent dimensional stability, coatability and printability, suitable for base materials for cards by subjecting a plurality of paper layers each comprising natural pulp and synthetic fiber to papermaking process so as to afford a bulk density within a specified range. SOLUTION: This multilayer paper is obtained by subjecting a paper stock comprising natural pulp and synthetic fiber (e.g. polyester-based conjugated fiber) to papermaking process to effect >=3-layered structure so that the amount of the synthetic fiber included in the two outermost layers or only one of them is not greater than the total amount thereof in the intermediate layer(s), and by passing the resultant multilayer paper through the nipping part of a pair of metallic rolls to treat it under a line pressure of 200-3,500 kg/cm to bring its bulk density to 0.9-1.6 g/cm3. Thereafter, at least one side of the multilayer paper thus obtained is provided with a pigment-contg. aqueous resin layer which, in turn, is laminated with an ionizing radiation-curable resin layer to obtain a base material for cards.
|
