PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal transfer recorder capable of not applying bad effect to an image when sublimable ink is transferred to a recording paper. SOLUTION: An image receiving layer 22 that represents an adhesive property by being softened when heating the layer is transferred to a recording paper before ink is transferred thereto. At that time, a thermal head driving means makes an image receiving layer transferring region 37 wider than an ink transferring region 39. A thermal head is driven such that a power applied to heating resistors on the thermal head corresponding to a circumference region 38 of the image receiving layer transferring region 37 is greater than that applied to the inner region where the image receiving layer 22 is transferred.
