PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal transfer printer capable of not lowering image quality irrespective of a diameter of a wound ink sheet. SOLUTION: A torque limiter 7 for limiting a winding torque by nipping an ink sheet 4 disposed between a winding reel and a thermal head 3 is provided. A tension applied to the ink sheet 4 disposed between the torque limiter 7 and a printing section is maintained constant irrespective of the diameter of the wound ink sheet 4, thereby preventing a position shift in an image.
