PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a camber by restraining a metal band with guide pieces, putting the center of pressing force which is transmitted to a moving mechanism, a driving device and a unit frame in the space of a housing, obtaining the reaction force of the pressing force by abutting the unit frame on the inside of the housing. SOLUTION: The unit frame 6 is moved to a rolling position 26 or a retreating position 27 with a swing arm 24 and a swing cylinder 25. In the rolling position 26, the main part (the part in which the moving mechanism and the driving device are housed) of the unit frame 6 is housed in the space of the housing. The clamp cylinder 28 provided on the side face of the unit frame 6 is fixed to the housing 4 by energizing oil pressure. The pressing force by restraining a steel strip is transmitted to the inside surface of the housing through the clamp cylinder 28 from the unit frame 6 and, even in this case, the centers of the pressing force and the reaction force always exist in the space of the housing. In this way, the accuracy of the side guide device 5 is improved and the mechanism life is also improved.
