Carpet-removing composition

A loosening agent for wallpapers coated with disperse colours and enabling easy stripping consists of 30-90% water, 5-60% wetting and/or dissolving solvent for the dispersed colour, 0.5-20% emulsifier, 0.5-5% thickening agent and 0.1-3% paraffin. The new loosening agent is a viscous but easily flowing mass and enables wallpapers coated with disperse colours to be subsequently removed which is not possible with the more normal water/emulsifying agent type looseners. The presence of the organic solvent allows penetration of the water through the disperse colour coating and so softens the adhesive layer. Very thick papers stuck with synthetic resin binders are still readily loosened.
