PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the image processing method and system by which a paper size is automatically selected at a highest efficiency without missing a picture in the case of reading an original of a not-fixed form. SOLUTION: An aspect ratio detection section 16 detects an aspect ratio of image data received from an image input section 11 and a fixed form size optimum to the image data is selected from fixed form sizes stored in a fixed form size management table 17 based on the detected aspect ratio. Thus, even in the case of processing an image of a not fixed form, an output result without missing of a picture and waste of paper is obtained without troubling the user. Furthermore, even in the case of not directly printing image data, since a selected fixed size is added to an image file as attribute information, this method can be used for transferring the image file via a network and registration of the data to a database.
