PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electrolyte battery equipped with an enhanced low-temp. discharge characteristic. SOLUTION: An organic electrolyte battery has a bundle of spiral electrodes 4 formed by winding a sheet-form positive electrode plate 1 and a sheet-form negative electrode plate 2 with a separator 3 interposed, wherein the positive electrode plate 1 consists of a positive electrode working substance, electroconduction agent, and a binder while the negative electrode plate 2 consists of alkali metal or its alloy. As positive electrode working substance, two sorts of manganese dioxide are used; one is electrolytic manganese dioxide A which is subjected to a heat treatment in the temp. range 380-460 deg.C and whose specific surface area ranges 40-80 m2/g and the other is electrolytic manganese dioxide B which is subjected to a heat treatment in the temp. range 350-430 deg.C and whose specific surface area ranges 15-20 m2/g. Use of the type A manganese dioxide enhances the low-temp. discharge characteristics while the type B manganese dioxide maintains the discharge characteristics a1 room temp., and good balance between the room temp. and low temp. is obtained by making the mix proportion so that the content of the type A ranges 10-40 wt.%. |
