PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a damage of bending, breaking, etc., of a punch generated in piercing a position detection hole of a steel strip. SOLUTION: When piercing a hole at a joining part and a cutting position of a steel strip 2 with using a piercing device consisting of a die 12 and a punch 3 in a continuous treatment line of the steel strip 2, the steel strip 2 is placed on the die 12 by descending a passing belt of the steel strip 2 and is pressed on the die 12 by descending a steel strip pressing member 19, a hole is punched to the steel strip 2 by descending the punch 3, and then the punch 3 is ascended/returned, successively, the holding of the steel strip 2 by the steel strip pressing member 19 is released. Next, by returning the steel strip 2 to a normal passing level, there is no case the punch 3 is not pulled out from a punched hole, the force in the horizontal direction is not applied to the punch, the damage of bending, breaking, etc., of the punch 3 is prevented.
