PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make regeneration and exchange of active carbon used unnecessary while a sulfur based offensive odor gas such as hydrogen sulfide or the like can be treated at a cheap operating cost by a method wherein a molded product containing a specific amount of active carbon is filled in a passing route of the offensive odor gas, and the offensive odor gas is allowed to pass therethrough while the water content of the molded product is maintained at a specific ratio of a contained active carbon weight. SOLUTION: As a molded product containing active carbon, a honeycomb structure wherein a sheet having fibrous active carbon as a main component is used, can be treated at a low pressure loss, is excellent in a handling property, and light-weighted and special reinforcing is not required. An odor gas is put in an upward flow into a filling tower 1 in which the molded product containing 20 wt.% or more of active carbon is filled, water is intermittently sprinkled by a water sprinkler 3 in an upper part of the filling tower, the moisture content of the molded product is maintained at 30 or more wt.% of the contained active carbon weight, and an oxide product of sulfuric acid or the like which has been accumulated by wet oxidation is removed by holding the surface in a wet state. Thereby, sulfur based offensive odor gas such as hydrogen sulfide, methyl mercaptan, methyl sulfide or the like can be removed steadily for a long period of time. |
