PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel aminouracil of a specified substituted aminouracil and useful for stabilize chlorine-containing polymers, particularly polyvinyl chloride polymer. SOLUTION: This is a compound represented by the formula [n is 1 or 2; Y is O or S; R1 and R2 are each a 1-4C alkoxy group or the like]. The compound of the formula is prepared, for example, by heating a mixture of 6- amino-1,3-dimethylurcil, a formaldehyde solution, toluene and glacial acetic acid under reflux, until the water-acetic acid mixture is recovered, cooling the reaction mixture, separating the resultant precipitate, rinsing the precipitate with toluene and drying the rinsed precipitate under a reduced pressure. In a preferred embodiment, the compound of the formula is added to a chlorine- containing polymer in an amount of 0.1-3 wt.% to stabilize the polymer. The aminouracil may be combined with a polyol or a disaccharide alcohol and the like. The amount of the polyol is preferably 0.1-10 pts.wt. per 100 pts.wt. of the polyvinyl chloride polymer.
