PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a PLU(price lookup data) file management technique capable of temporarily registering the product data of a product to a temporary PLU file while an operator performs a sales processing, updating a PLU file based on the temporary PLU file after the sales processing and judging the cause of non-matching in the case that the product code of the product and the product code registered in the PLU file do not match during the sales processing. SOLUTION: In a POS(point of sales) system, in the case that data pertinent to the product code are not registered in the PLU file 3, the product data are temporarily registered to the temporary PLU file 4. Whether or not an item name temporarily inputted to the temporary PLU file 4 is registered in the PLU file 3 is judged. In the case that it is registered, it is judged that the product data registered in the PLU file 3 are erroneously registered and the erroneously registered product data are corrected based on the product data temporarily registered in the temporary PLU file 4. In the case that it is not registered, it is judged that it is not registered in the PLU file 3 and the product data temporarily registered in the temporary PLU file 4 are registered by transferring the data to the PLU file 3.
