Method and apparatus for conveying picture information

This invention is related to a method and apparatus for changing picture information from a first format to a second format, wherein the first format has a particular line length and the second format has a different line length. The first format picture is stored sequentially on entry into a store, and retrieved sequentially in the order of entry to provide the picture information in a second format. The method and apparatus can be used to change picture information having a non-standard format into a format suitable for conveyance across standard components, such as interfaces, readily available for use in picture systems such as television. Where the method and apparatus are included within digital broadcasting of picture information, and in particular for HDTV processing, then the method and apparatus of the invention can be duplicated to provide a reversal of the change of format.
