PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce erythritol through continuous fermentation process by culturing erythritol-productive microorganisms in a fermentative medium of a specific saccharide concentration followed by dividing the medium into microorganismic fraction and product fraction so as to recycle the microorganisms. SOLUTION: Erythritol is produced through a continuous fermentation process using erythritol-productive microorganisms by the aid of saccharide fed batch and repeated fermentation. More precisely, the microorganisms are added to a fermentative medium of a saccharide concentration of <200 g/L to start a fermentation, and a substrate is added to the medium so as to maintain the whole saccharide concentration at <200 g/L After the saccharide is consumed entirely, the medium is divided into concentrated microorganismic fraction and erythritol-rich fraction, and the former fraction is subjected to at least one fermentation cycle including at least one step for recycling the microorganisms recovered from the medium to perform fermentation continuously, thereby recovering all of the erythritol-rich fractions.
|
