1,194,286. Polyolefin derivatives. ESSO RESEARCH & ENG. CO. 26 April, 1968, No. 19881/68. Heading C3P. [Also in Divisions C4-C5] Detergent oil additives which are metal, ammonium or organic base derivatives of a compound of formula where X represents -COOH, -OH, -SH or -SO 3 H, Y represents or, provided X is not -COOH, the group where R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>11</SP> are hydrogen or hydrocarbyl, and R x represents hydrogen atoms or one to four hydrocarbyl groups, may be prepared by reacting the corresponding amino acid, amino phenol, amino thiophenol or amino sulphonic acid with a polyolefin substituted succinic anhydride, and with the metal or organic base. Alternatively the amino compound may be prereacted with the base. Examples describe the preparation of detergent additives by reacting polyisobutenyl succinic anhydride with (1) anthranilic acid and calcium hydroxide, (2) o-amino phenol and calcium hydroxide, (3) o-amino thiophenol and calcium hydroxide, (4) calcium anthranilate and (5) calcium p-toluidine-2-sulphonate. |
