PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound which consists of a specific optically activeα-halo-halophenylacetic acid and an optically active aralkylamine, and is useful as an intermediate of medicines and agrochemicals such as anticoagulant. SOLUTION: This compound is a salt shown by formula I (X1 and X2 are each Cl, Br, or the like; C* is an asymmetric carbon; R1 is a 1-4C alkyl or the like; R2 is H, a 1-4C alkyl, or the like; A is an aryl) [e.g. a salt from (+)-α- bromo-2-chlorophenylacetic acid and (R)-2,4-dichloro-α-methylbenzylamine] is obtained by reacting (A) a racemic mixture of an a-halo-halophenylacetic acid shown by formula II (e.g.α,2-dichlorophenylacetic acid) with (B) an optically active aralkylamine in (C) a solvent, preferably at a B/A molar ratio of 0.4-1.5, at a C/A weight ratio of 1-50, followed by precipitating one diastereomer salt. It is preferable to carry out the optical resolution at a temp. of -20 to 60 deg.C.
