PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a preparation for external use for skin having an excellent moisture retaining effect, controlling the sense of greasiness characteristic to mucopolysaccharide. SOLUTION: This preparation comprises 0.001-5.0 wt.% of a mucopolysaccharide such as hyaluronic acid and 0.01-10.0 wt.% of a fermented soybean essence. The fermented soybean essence is obtained by fermenting seeds of soybeans with Bacillus natto Sawamura to give 20% Bacillus natto Sawamura essence extracted with ethanol, incorporating the essence with absolute ethanol to precipitate a massive viscous material and dispersing the massive viscous material into a 10% ethanol solution. The fermented soybean essence is a viscous essence comprising aγ-glutamic acid polymer as a main component, a saccharide, etc.
