PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent deterioration of a heat storage body by a method wherein when thinning operation is effected by switching, in order, a plurality of regenerative burners, and in the switching, the regenerative burner always terminates in combustion. SOLUTION: Supply valves 52 and 53 and an exhaust valve 55 are opened and air supply valves 51 and 54 and an exhaust valve 56 are closed. A regenerative burner A1 is caused to effect combustion, exhaust gas therefrom is sucked by a regenerative burner B1, and the heat of exhaust gas is stored in a heat storage body 22. Thereafter, when the regenerative burner B1 is caused to effect combustion, combustion air is preheated by the heat storage body 22 to store heat. In this case, the regenerative burners are brought into a state to be always terminated in combustion during switching of the burners. This constitution, since the heat storage body is reduced in temperature to a suited low value through heat-exchange with combustion air or fuel, prevents the increase of temperature to a so high value through heating even when high temperature exhaust gas in a furnace gradually penetrates during rest, resulting in prevention of deterioration of the heat storage body. |
