PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an opening/closing apparatus for a gate of a hopper, capable of discharging articles without breaking them during the opening and closing of the gate in the case where the articles stored in the hopper are discharged to a succeeding apparatus. SOLUTION: A gate portion is formed on the underside of a storage hopper 10 by using two rotating rollers 8-1, 8-2 and a belt 9 provided tightly between these two rotating rollers. This gate portion is supported on a movable frame 2, and the movable frame 2, a cylinder 6 for linearly reciprocating the movable frame 2 in a horizontal direction and a guide 3 are provided on a base 1. At the time of opening and closing the gate, the aforementioned gate portion is moved by the cylinder 6 while the belt 9 being shifted from its contact position with the faces of the two rotating rollers 8-1, 8-2.
