1,258,148. Deflecting propulsion jets. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 25 Nov., 1969 [2 Dec., 1968], No. 57548/69. Heading B7G. [Also in Division F1] Jet-deflecting apparatus for a jet engine 10 (Fig. 1, not shown) whose exhaust outlet is defined by an outer casing 18, Fig. 2, and a central body 28 consisting of fixed upstream and axially movable downstream portions 30, 32 comprises means 52, Fig. 4, for moving the downstream portion 32 between a retracted and an extended position, and cascade assemblies 26 of jet directing vanes 34 hinged at 36 to portion 32 for axial movement therewith and for rotational movement between stowed and deployed positions effected by actuating means 62, 64, 68, and receiving means 38 for enclosing said assemblies when stowed. Moving means 52 comprises telescopically adjustable tubular actuator rods 62, 64 moved by actuator means 66, rod 62 being secured to portion 32. and rod 64 to each assembly 26 by linkage means 68 so that axial movement of rod 64 relative to rod 62 effects corresponding rotation of assemblies 26 about hinge 36. A torque guide may be provided on rod 64 to prevent rotation therearound of portion 32 and the cascades 26. |
