Yarn is produced from a tow composed of cut fibres by subjecting the tow to at least one drawing stage, and then twisting the drawn tow to form a yarn, the point of application of the twist being maintained by passing the drawn tow through a supplementary stage in which it is subjected to practically no drawing, the tow being supported entirely during its passage through this stage.
