PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of solving the problem of static electricity accompanied by original carriage and providing stable images at all times by constitution to be easily assembled and easily disassembled as product manufacturing which is gentle to an environment. SOLUTION: This original reader is provided with an image contact sensor (original read means) 15 and an original carriage means (feed roller 13a, paper discharge roller 17a and auxiliary rollers 13b and 17b). In this case, the image contact sensor 15 is energized almost in parallel with an original carrying surface from original carrying direction upstream to downstream by a CS attaching spring (elastic member) 15c, and the image contact sensor 15 and a read position are positioned.
