PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a building material at a low cost by attaching a reinforcing member to the rear side of a natural stone to improve the strength thereof so that the weight as a whole can be reduced, whereby a separation due to a difference in thermal expansion and aging or cracks can be prevented from occurring. SOLUTION: The building material 1 comprises a natural stone 2 and a reinforcing member to reinforce a rear side of the material 1. And an FRP 3 is laid integrally all over the rear side of the stone 2 and a plurality of trusses are connected together in a matrix form through the FRP 3 to form a truss mesh structures 4 each constituting an irregular mesh, which structures 4 are integrally connected together as reinforcing members. Thus, even if difference in thermal expansion between the stone 2 and the reinforcing member due to the outside temperature difference, the difference in thermal expansion does not act directly between the stone and the member and particularly the structure 4 itself has elasticity, and hence the structure 4 absorbs the difference in thermal expansion so that the stone 2 is not affected. Therefore, the deterioration of the stone 2 such as separation thereof can be eliminated so that even if the stone is used for a long period, sufficient reinforcing can be maintained.
