PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display an excellent quality image which sufficiently brightens both of the reflection type display and the transmission type display without missing lighted pixels, and also without moire fringes. SOLUTION: This display device has an illuminating means 10 with a function of making light from a light source 15 and external light of incidence from the front to exit forward, respectively, behind a display element 1, and the illuminating means 10 is comprised of a 1st light transmission body 11 which takes light from the light source part 15 from the end face and makes it exit from each step 13b face and also reflects light of incidence from the front by the upper reflecting layer 14, and a 2nd light transmission body 18 provided with an incident part having a 1st optical interface 19a for taking the exiting light from the step faces 13b on the back face and a 2nd optical interface 19b refracting forward the light of incidence from the former interface, and the pitch P2 of the incident part 19 of the 2nd light transmission body 18 is made smaller than both the arraying pitch Pa of the pixel part A of the display element 1 and the pitch P1 of the step faces 13b of the 1st light transmission body 11. |
