1,196,388. Recovering metals from scrap. ENVIRON Inc. Nov. 1, 1968 No. 51950/68. Heading C7D. Scrap is tested to separate it into component parts by supporting it on a rotatable metal plate which carries at least one blunt projection extending from its working face for inter-action with the scrap, restraining the scrap against premature escape in a radial direction and rotating the plate at such a speed that axial and tangential acceleration imparted locally to the scrap by the projection are sufficient to disassemble it into a plurality of pieces. As shown the plate 1 is mounted on a vertical rotatable shaft and has projections such the ends of bolts 6, which may be provided with hardened caps 5, on its upper face. Radial restraint is provided by a tube 2 which may be adjusted to leave a small gap above the face of plate 1 for the escape of fumes, or may surround the periphery of the plate with a fixed clearance. The apparatus may be used to disassemble transformers, vehicle parts, electric motors, car bodies or motor vehicle engines. Contaminants such as paint, salt, dirt rust and glass may be disintegrated and discharged through the gap while the bulk of the metals are retained.
|
