The present invention discloses an apparatus (55) for detecting call waiting signals transmitted to an associated modem (25). Detection circuitry (60) monitors a received data stream for a call waiting signal. Upon detection of a call waiting signal, a filter (75) removes the call waiting signal from the data stream and, using an indicator (65), provides notification to a user that a call waiting signal has been received. The user may discontinue data transfer in response to the indicator. |
