A police baton comprises an outer tube (5) having first and second ends (51, 52). An inner section (1) has first and second ends (11, 12) and is telescopically extendable and retractable within the outer tube (5) with the second end (12) of the inner section (1) captive within the outer tube (5). The inner section (1) is non-rotatable about its axis, within the outer tube (5). The inner section (1) has an external portion (13) which, when the inner section (1) is fully extended, extends externally of the outer tube (5) from the first end (51) of the outer tube to the first end (11) of the inner section. All of the external portion (13) of the inner section (1) is of circular cross section without any projection from its surface or discontinuity in its surface. This configuration may provide a telescopically extendable baton which works very efficiently, whilst affording significant safety features. |
