The charge-holding ability of a lead/acid battery is restored by charging the battery, removing the free acid electrolyte and replacing it with a strongly alkaline solution, and subsequently removing the alkaline solution, washing the battery and refilling it with acid electrolyte. The alkaline solution may contain NaOH or KOH amounting, e.g., to 1 pound per gallon of water.</p> |
