Method to update characteristic values in a programmable operating unit of a industrial control system

Characteristic values for an industrial control process are stored in field units (1 -3), each equipped with an HTTP server (7) enabling the unit to construct, in response to an external request, an HTML page in which the values are embedded. Real time updating of the values is performed using either locally acquired data or that obtained over the communication network.
